Global health challenges don’t stop at borders
University Hospitals has long partnered with communities and institutions around the world to improve lives where access to care is limited, train and collaborate with local providers, and respond to global health crises. Through the Roe Green Global Health Scholars Program, UH physicians take their expertise beyond our walls, supporting maternal and child health, infectious disease prevention, medical education and more across the globe. This work doesn’t just save lives abroad – it strengthens healthcare for all of us, and your support makes it possible.
Roe Green Global Health Scholars are making a difference.

Shubham Gupta, MD
Division Chief, Reconstructive Urology,
UH Urology Institute; Alexander and Sarah Cutler Chair in Men’s Health
Dr. Gupta is working to improve surgical outcomes on a global scale. Of his international surgical missions, he has led three to war-torn Ukraine where we performed life changing reconstructive surgeries for patients injured by conflict. He also partners with fellow surgeons abroad to share skills and build lasting capacity.

Bianca Guedes Ribeiro, MD, MSc
Pediatric radiologist
Dr. Ribeiro is working to strengthen pediatric care in some of the world’s most remote regions. In the Brazilian Amazon, she has helped deliver imaging, clinical care and surgical support to communities reachable only by river. She also prioritizes education, delivering lectures and hands on training to clinicians oversees.

George Yendewa, MD, MPH
Infectious disease specialist
Dr. Yendewa knows that insufficient health care can leave communities vulnerable to infectious disease. He is leading research and outreach efforts to better understand and treat HIV and Hepatitis B in Sierra Leone, a country with only one infectious disease specialist.
